Hi! I am a 62 year old retiree. 8 months ago i noticed traces of blood in my toilet paper when having my usual bowel movement,(bm) followed by slight soreness. As days passed the soreness got bad and i went to the U niversity Hospital for a check-up. They said its nothing just tight sphincter muscles and was given painkillers. The pain got worse after my bms. The doctor then prescribed electro-therapy but it didn't work. I sought a second opinion from another specialist from a govenment doctor. This time they diagnosed anal fissure and was given fiber to take and rectogesic ointment and lignocaine to apply. Things didn't improve. They decided on a sphincteromy ie cutting part of the sphinter muscles so that the stools move smoothly and thus stop the pain. It didn't work and pain continued. One month after the procedure, they warded me for one week for pain treatment. Given all types of painkillers that did not work - synfex, lyrica, tramodol etc. My pain coninues. They told me that the fissure has healed but pain continues - after bm then pain spasms that can last till night and I can't sleep. Sometimes, the itchiness is killing.
Checked into a private hospital because of bad pains last week. They did a MRI on my lower region but found nothing. Meanwhile I am going crazy with pain. Saw a psychiatrist and given antidepression to sleep. Suffered daily pains for past 8 months. Want to kill myself but don't know how,

This is a new one by me too! Sammy, hospital stays don't help, they've always made me worse.
PK - Can you describe exactly where it hurts? When you start on painkillers, doctors usually prescribe the bare minimum, then up the dosages until they get a satisfactory result, which is usually nowhere near painkilling. I'd advise continued searching. Keilia's had wonderful success with medical MJ, maybe try that.
Oh, and before I forget, no more mentions of suicide please. Be positive!

Hello all New to this so bare with me. I have the same pain's in the anus. SHARP KNIFE LIKE STABBING PAINS, during defecation, or after. I also suffer back pain due to this, as being constipated does not help. (I know you will say the codine dont help constipation but it is required for other pains in the body) The only medication that relieves this pain is a muscal relaxant 2mg Diazepam I have been precribed up to 6mg's a day. (i only take this when in desparate need as it can be addictive. I have also been prescribed Codine as pain killers & Senna & Movical to relieve constipation. I have been told I HAVE a rectocele, I could ALSO have a fissula, which may need repairing, or a sphincter muscle problem. I'm waiting for my operation but as the N.H.S goes TWO operations have been cancelled already. I hope this helps someone. I have this nagging feeling that I get this pain due to the SCIATIC NERVE this is a very large nerve that branches off to smaller nerves, whereby it could be triggering it off if a nerve is getting trapped ever time my sphincter muscal decides to work or not work properly. what do you think?? SO if after my operation's I still recieve this pain I will demand to see a nerve specialist.
To the owner of this site. I also have the stabbing pains in my left side under my rib cage & left pelvis. BUT NO lump like you have. I also have had a ruptured ovarian cyst twice where i had referred pain under my rib cage and NOT in my pelvice area. just to let you know your not alone.
