Environmental Illness (Multiple Chemical Sensitivities) is a possible factor to consider, for just about anyone's mystery condition. With EI (MCS), your system reacts to ordinary, everyday substances in the air, water, food, etc., that are harmless to most people. It often starts with one big exposure to some powerful chemical (sometimes spraying of pesticide in a house or office). The classic first sensitivity one develops is to artificial perfumes in various products such as laundry detergents, and if one doesn't carefully limit one's exposure to those problem substances soon, more sensitivities to other things appear, and the whole thing snowballs.
Symptoms can take any form. We're not talking about traditional "allergy". My symptoms are largely neurological, and the worst allergens for me are petrochemical-based fumes.
By the way, traditional MDs are split on EI. Many dismiss it out of hand, others accept it. Either way, mainstream MDs aren't the way to find out about EI or find out if you have it. The MDs who deal with EI specifically are called clinical ecologists, and HEAL may still have referral lists. What they can do is limited... they haven't been able to help me. Many people have been helped, but they had less advanced problems and/or were able to move to an unpolluted area, probably.
