Told You It Was Not All In My Head!

PTSD sucks, I can tell you from experience. Feel free to ask me about my personal experience with it anytime.

Here is PTSD as explained by NIH

What is Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder?

Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder, PTSD, is an anxiety disorder that can develop after exposure to a terrifying event or ordeal in which grave physical harm occurred or was threatened. Traumatic events that may trigger PTSD include violent personal assaults, natural or human-caused disasters, accidents, or military combat.  More about PTSD »

Signs & Symptoms

People with PTSD have persistent frightening thoughts and memories of their ordeal and feel emotionally numb, especially with people they were once close to. They may experience sleep problems, feel detached or numb, or be easily startled. More about Signs & Symptoms »

Treatment

I love it, typical doctor speak. It's all PTSD sufferers MAY have this or that symptom.

I keep getting memories of being spat on by a very drunk guy when I go to a city station. I get tense, and Kaos senses it too, he gets very touchy. The police at the time of the spit weren't very helpful, I sat up the front of the train and shivered all the way home that night.
This happened 3 1/2 year ago. Would this be PTSD, or just a bad memory? It seems to resurface at that station in particular, and I get edgy if I park with people behind me...I prefer to sit on the platform 2 extension, because there's a brick wall on one side.

Hmm, I dont know how to describe it very well. I have PTSD also.

What happens when you remember it? Do you get any other symptoms?

New your situation IS definately PTSD. Anything that traumatizes you to the point of near panic when its near you because of a bad event is basically PTSD. Now if it was just a bad memory you would maybe sure think about it from time to time and how much it sucked that it happened .. but because you are altering the way behave (aka getting edgy and sitting on platform 2 extension) in the same situation each time that is what tells me it is PTSD.

I have PTSD now due to an endoscopy I had done last summer, I woke up in the middle of the procedure and was able to feel and remember everything , I remember the sounds of the room, what the nurses and doctor were saying.. all of it. They knocked me out again with more stuff in the IV hoping i would not remember but I DO.  aggressive

Yours is definatley PTSD, waking up in the middle of an operation would freak anyone out.
But, being spat on really isn't that traumatic, I've lived through much worse. These reactions aren't really thought about...it's like going into a room and not knowing why you did it, then the memory floats across my mind and I park in the corner up there so nobody can sneak up behind me.
I have to keep an eye on Kaos, I know he won't bite, but he will snap at anyone who comes near me when I'm in the corner.

Yes it can be recovered from. With therapy, usually. You dont just "get over it", it takes work, with a psychologist, and if you like, a psychiatrist.

Oh, and you are not a baby because of it. The brain works in mysterious ways =) It is NOT your fault in any way.

Therapy...I think I'd like to walk first. It's still not likely I'll find a psych doc who's skilled enough...
