I Will Be Diagnosed !

Wow Jenny I really am surprised at the lack of testing after all this time with bowel trouble.
Lactose intolerance, Crohns , Celiac and a few others (sorry can't think of the names off hand) are the very basics of bowel test most people would have when they start experiencing bowel problems, your old Doctors have been very slack, glad you've finally found one who knows what his doing  Big Grin

Don't stress about the testing, all simple stuff just time consuming !

When all else fails, play dead!

Yeah Jenny.
The tests are more annoying then anything else. 3 hours won't be too bad, you can read all the magazines in the clinic!!

Thanks guys!  =]

I'm on my way to get the test done in a minute. I'm definately taking a good book with me to read while I'm there (a medical book about the body to be exact). Thought I'd get some research done since I'm there for 3 hours..lol.

Ciao for now my dears!  Smile

It was ok, they mix alot of powder (which has lactose in it) in some water. (tastes kind of like diluted lemon-aid)
The powder wasn't very soluble, so I felt like I was drinking sand the last few gulps lol. :S

They do 3 blood tests:  30 mins, 1hr, and  2 hrs after drinking.
If you're lactose intolerant, then your glucose levels wont go up because you can't digest the lactose into sugar (that's why you get gas and diarrhea)

Nothing to it, other than having to wait 2 hours in the wait room and you feel like a pin cushion afterwards lol.

Kirstin, you should get this done since you have bowel problems.

Hi, sorry I haven't updated in a while! I've been busy helping with my parent's business.

No, I haven't gotten a call back for my results yet!  Cry
I've been trying to call my gastro, but his receptionist isn't picking up my calls  Confused
They were suppose to call me about when my colonoscopy is schedueled..but none so far..

About my MRI, no news either. I called the clinic and they didn't get my results yet either (arg!)

It's just a waiting game for now I guess *sigh*

They would call if I was lactose intolerant, right? If they had an abnormal lac. test results?

I too would continue to call...

I have learned though that if my results are normal there seems to be no need to get the results to me immediately. If something is found they usually call within a day or two or contact your primary doctor to give the abnormal results quickly so they can get in to see you as soon as possible.. or so I have heard with people with abnormal results, but I wouldnt know that..  I never get phone calls about my labs, or procedures only a letter weeks later from my primary doc saying.. "all normal".. blah blah blah... However being that lactose intolerance isnt usually something that is life threatening, it could be that something was found in the test and so therefore.. I would keep calling  Wink

So that is my experience with tests/labs/procedures though I don't know if its the same in Canada or not? so don't qoute me. I don't want to be Debbie Downer and rain on your parade. I hope that something is found...its really too bad your not able to obtain your own health records.. sometimes things that fall into normal catagories but are high or low normals are notated on your charts but not told to you... this is when it is handy to have you medical files.. helps put some peices together.

Speaking of a week ago I got blood work done for liver function... no word=normal results  Sad aggressive

Cathie, are you saying that you had to do all those tests before a colonoscopy or to determine if you lactose intolerant?

No i just had them done lately, I had a regular stool and blood tests, and when it was flagged i had the breath test as a final check.
Last colonoscopy was a few years ago.
Actually it all started before the endoscopy i think.
