I got up at 11am, did the feeding rounds. I was interrupted while getting Kaos ready by a lady off Freecycle who wanted Vinyl to cover a floor in her house. My spare vinyl has been under my dog crate, I didn't know what to do with it. The lady took it, and I went back to getting Kaos ready for our trip to see mum. We got to the station, I sped up to catch the train before it took off, I got to just behind the driver's door when the train took off, needless to say that driver got a few 'blessings' on his head! I SMSed mum and told her I'd be late for the lunch meeting. As we sat on the platform for 20mins waiting for the next train, I checked my tyres. The left drive wheel had all the rubber taken off it in 2 spots. I told myself 'No buses' because a chair with no grip on a bus is dangerous to other people, not just me, and it'd probably wipe even more rubber off.
Mum said during lunch that she had the parents of 3 possible cubs to meet with, so I did a very silly thing, I offered to pick up Miranda from school. Mum lectured me on where to go, and I must be there on time or she'll stress. I caught a bus to the clinic and made an appointment for wednesday next week with the GP, as the wait for people without an appointment was long. I caught another bus (most of them are wheelchair accessible regardless if you book or not!) to Mum's house, nobody was home. I drove up the hill that seemed 20x bigger when I was a kid! I drove back home and went for a look the other way around the block, then I drove back a bit and went sightseeing up the road that took me around to the front of the school. I was still too early for Miranda, so I let Kaos have a free leash roam in the park opposite the front gate. We roamed in the grass...Kaos doesn't like to walk behind the wheelchair, so I let him 'herd' me. Both of us enjoyed it, he was huffing and puffing and grinning ear to ear when he came back to be put on leash again. Mum called at 3:15 and asked where I was. I replied 'At school'. She said thank you and hung up, I guessed her mobile phone was dying, like mine was. We crossed the road and went into the school. A friend of mum's started chatting with me about how much the school had changed. I said something about how 4 of the portable classrooms had gone, the art room had gone (it was in it's own building) and the tram was gone (an ex tram that had been vandalized was re furbished and was an extra classroom when needed). She said 'There are only about 13 grade 3s...when you came here the school had 500+ kids, it now has 150+.' Kaos walked Miranda home, I lumped the schoolbag! I told Miranda about all the goodies I had for her, from when the Easter Bunny dropped eggs at my place and the 3 ducks on bath gel balls I got for her, she could hardly wait until we got home. When we got home, I discovered that a green car had stolen my parking spot in the driveway, so I had to park the chair next to the 4WD ornament, lock the control box and loop Kaos' leash around my waist. Remind me never to crawl with a sore back, it doesn't help the pain! I collapsed in the hallway, Kaos snoozed next to me. Mums friend, Robyn said hello to me, and goodbye before she left. Mum said I look half dead, so she gave me some chicken soup while Kaos ate Miranda's leftovers from 2 nights before. At about 5:30pm, I said my goodbyes and went down the road to the busstop. Apparently the low rider bus that was supposed to come broke down, so she had to drive a non accessible bus. She called the company(the two way radio wasn't working) and told me the next low rider bus would be coming at 6:55. I went back and collapsed on the floor again, careful not to hit Kaos who'd beaten me to it! I left to go back to the bus stop 10mins early. The bus didn't see me and stopped 20m from the bus stop. The driver apologised for missing me, it's dark! I got on and rode the bus all the way to the station. I stopped in at KFC, I'm not walking a hungry dog home! The rest of our trip home was uneventful, Kaos was worn out, not every day's that exciting!
Remind me - need 2 drive tyres replaced and add to the OT list the chair needs lights/reflectors.
