HI, Im Terry.  I spent 6 years in the military, traveling all over the world was so much fun.  I decided to get out of the service in June, 2004.  About 3 weeks prior to leaving the service, I became violently ill.  I was suffering from a fever, chills, headache, nausea, vomiting, diarreah, etc.  At first, I thought I just had the common cold or flu, give it a few days, and I should be back to normal.  Well, needless to say, this wasn't the case.  After I returned home, I still felt extremely sick and decided to have some tests ran.  By now, I was having severe pain in my upper right quadrant of my stomach and was having severe vision problems, especially floaters that were moving accross my vision field.  The only thing that blood tests could reveal was that my liver enzymes were a little out of range, about twice what they should have been, nothing severe, and that was about it. I also suffer from extreme cold intollerance.  When i get out of the shower, I shake considerably hard.  I thought it might be a thyroid disfuction, but tests excluded that from being the case.  I was tested for Hepatitis A, AB, B, and C, with all tests coming back negative.  I was tested for MONO(epstein-barr virus) which came back positive, but however not actively causing any problem.(dormant). I have had a Gallbladder drain done as well, showing that it worked properly. I had a colonoscopy done as well, which didn't show any sign of intestinal problem, or signs of IBS or Chron's.  I still haven't had a MRI scan of my brain...Im extremly afraid of getting in to one of those machines like that. My lymph nodes in my throat and armits are still sore, but not swollen to cause the doctors concern.  I also have problems with my swallowing.  Sometimes when I swallow, it feels like the food is going to catch or get caught but it never does.  It's just a severe annoyance that started as soon as I came down ill.  After 18 months of no diagnosis, I started to see a psychiatrist to help me deal with the Anxiety. I was still so sick, that I couldn't get out of bed most days and when i did, it was pure will power.
It's been almost 5 years now.  The doctors put me on a drug called Methadone to help with the pain I was having in my stomach.  That is when I began to feel better.  It controls the vomiting, the diarreah, and the nausea.  I still have floaters in my eyes that won't go away.  I am still in pain, but it's manageable.  I have had so many tests ran, so many doctors that tell me that I am just fine.  They tell me, "you probably had a virus, and it should be gone by now! "  But i still feel sick.  I still feel that something is wrong.  I am like most of you.  Just hoping and praying that I will finally have an answer to what has made me so ill.

Terry

Jenny:  I had a barium swallow done a couple of years ago to check and see if there was something in my throat that was causing the "hitch" i have whenever I swallow.  The tests didn't show anything conclusive, and I was told that my results were okay, and nothing to worry about.
Samantha:  I have been seeing my current doctor for about two years now.  There aren't many tests left to run and it seems as if I have repeated everything twice.  Im just glad a found a place on the internet that provides support that I can't get from doctors.

I Will Be Diagnosed !

I'm glad you found us Terry  Smile it's good to chat with other undiagnosed people...
Can I ask...you've got a few things going on but what's the worse part ? what causes the most pain and discomfort?

I see you've had a gall bladder drain (was that a Hida Scan?) just thinking has an exploratory Laparoscopy ever been suggested? I'm only going by my history ...but burst appendix, sludge around the gall bladder and some other health issues were never picked up via Ultrasound, CT Scans, Blood tests or MRI...so just a thought.

Sammy: The worst part for me is the pain that I experience in my stomach.  It located just slightly below my liver on the right side.  It's a stabbing pain.  It's constant, never goes away, and doesn't seem to be aggrivated by certain foods.  I used to have alot of nausea with bouts of diarreah that I couldn't control until my doc put me on Methadone.  I helps with the stomach pain considerably and keeps the diarreah away.  I still deal with nausea, but it's not as bad as it used to be.  A couple of years ago, they found that my intestines we 90 degrees out of alignment and thought that might be causing my problems.  So, they went in and preformed a LADD's procedure to correct it.  However, it didn't fix any of my problems.  Another symptoms that bothers the ":{"! out of me is the fast moving floaters in my vision.  If i look at the sky on a sunny day, I can see all the "bugs" moving across my vision field.  No doctor, even an opthomologist has been able to explain to me what might be causing these.  "side note":  I had lasik eye surgery done in december of 2003. I believe my Gall bladder drain was a HIDA scan, but im not sure.

Jason:  All of my labs are normal, except for my ALT and AST liver enzymes.  When i first fell ill, my ALT and AST's were twice the normal limit.  However, after 5 years, those enzymes have now leveled out, and are just slightly out of normal range, but still higher than what they should be.  This led the doctors to believe that I came down with a virus, such as MONO, or CMV.  However, tests for those infections came back negative.  I am also negative for HIV, Hep A, AB, B, and C viruses.

Sammy, it's terry.  I was browsing the site a little and notice someone mentioned a disease called,
"illeocecal Valve syndrome."  I read of the symptoms that this causes, and it's the closest ive ever seen that is very similar to what I might be dealing with.  If the valve isn't working properly, it could back up stool in to the small intestine and cause you to feel like you have to flu all the time, nausea, and diarreah,  which is exactly how i feeland very similar to my symptoms.  Plus, the pain seems to be in that exact same area.  I wonder if this could possible be my problem.  Have you heard many people that have had this type of syndrome?

Hey Terry

I actually know a little about Illeocecal valve syndrome.  If you dont know the ileocecal valve is the valve connecting the small intestines to the large intestines.  There's two versions of this syndrome that i'm aware of, one where the valve is stuck open and one where it gets stuck closed.  When it gets stuck closed food will backup at the valve.  which will cause SEVERE pain in your lower right quadrant (where the valve is located).  food can sit in the intestines longer, making you nauseous, your body will throw up to prevent more food from being blocked.  but you wont get flu symptoms from this.  On the other hand if the valve is stuck open it freely allows food to enter the large intestines and allows backflow from the large intestines to enter the small intestines.  there is no blockage with this version, meaning no pain whatsover.  but the small intestines will be riddled with bacteria which is where the flu symptoms come from.

So in general it covers a lot of your symptoms, but its subdivided into categories that individually i dont think quite explains it.  Unless there is another version that i'm unaware of.  maybe if its spastic then it could be both open and closed. but i'm not sure without researching it.

I think you're on the right track though.  Considering you have difficulty swallowing (known as dysphagia by the way) its possible you're having trouble with peristalsis (the movement used to propel food), but i think that would make it a neurological problem.  i dunno. lemme know if you have any updates!

Jason: Thanks for all of the info that you were able to provide me with.  Right now, i'm willing to look at everything, hoping that something will finally come along to provide me with a diagnosis.  Even if it's something that can't be cured, it would be so great just to know what the problem is.  As far as the swallowing issue(disphagia), I don't really have a problem with food getting caught in my throat or esophagus.  It's more like a crunching noise when i swallow food, right around the thyroid area.  Food goes down okay, but every time i swallow food, this "clicking or crunching" sound occurs. I have no idea what could be causing it, but it started as soon as i became ill.  It was one of the first signs I noticed, along with all of the lymphnodes in my throat, armpits and groin becoming extremely painful.  Then came the bouts of orange diarreah, severe stomach pain(right quadrant) and and extreme sensitivity to cold.  I lived in Hawaii for over 5 years when i was in the military, so it never got cold there.  I thought maybe my sensitivity to cold weather was due to the climate change, but now ive been back in ohio and it still affects me.  Even in 60 degree weather, i feel like i need to bundle up so i don't shake.  Sometimes, the shaking is so bad, i feel as if im going in to a seisure.  The only thing i can find out about cold or hot sensitivity is something to do with the thyroid, such as hashmotis, but my thyroid test have all came back normal.  Have you ever had or heard of people complain of fast moving "floaters" in their vision?  I can't find anything on the internet. What it looks like, is if you were to look under a microscope and view sperm swimming.  That's what I see, and I see it all the time.  I can't find a thing at all on the internet about what that might be.  All i can find is just normal floaters that move slowly, due to particals in the vitreous fluid.  I just thought id would ask , because no one has any ideas what they may be.  When the did my colonoscopy, they did a biopsy, and said I had a bacteria in called, "spirochetosis."  I was prescribed a drug called metronidozol, but they said those bacteria are quite normal and wouldn't be causing the severe pain, nausea, flu-like symptoms, and extreme lethargy.  Until I started taking the methadone, i was sleeping almost 23 hours a day, and was vomiting almost every hour.  This lasted almost 18 months.  I almost contemplated suicide because i thought there was nothing that could be done and i wasn't going to be a vegetable.
If you have any other suggestions for me, please feel free to let me know. I appreciate everything that you all are doing for me.
Take care and god bless,
Terry
P.S.  If there is anything else you need from me, please don't hesitate to ask.

a crunching noise?? that's odd.  can you tell where it's coming from? do you still get orange diarrhea?

the only thing i think i can really comment on at the moment is the floaters.  Usually floaters seen in the eye are proteins that separate from the retina.  I have a few myself, and people with them are more susceptible to retinal detatchment from the sclera of the eye.  But those are typically slow moving or will hardly move at all as long as you're still.  "fast moving" sounds indicative of something that can move itself.  Typically bacteria move in a more amoebic  fashion, they're not really all that capable of propelling themselves.  But, a parasite or spores or something of that nature could possibly do it.  something that has a flagella could cause "fast movements".  But before i go into to much speculation i'd like to hear more detail of exactly what you're seeing in your eyes, how it moves, is it "floating" or "moving".  etc.

Jason:  They (floaters) are moving.  And they are moving at a very fast pace.  Like i mentioned before, if you were to look at sperm under a microscope and see them moving around extremely fast, that is exactly what I see.  Ive talked to several doctors who describe similar comments as you have. For example, retinal detachments will be seen in the eye, but they move up and down, side to side as your eye moves.  Mine, when i don't move my head or eyes at all, looks like thousands of little "sperm-like" critters that move extremly fast.  I've always wondered what could have caused this.  If i can see this in my vision and is in the vitreous fluid, could it actually be in my blood stream as well.  I have a hunch that if I can find out what these things are, I will find out exactly what is causing me to be ill.  But how would I find out?  Would someone have to take a sample of the vitreous fluid of my eye and look under a microscope?  I don't know.  Thanks so much for your support and your dilegence in helping me, Jason.  As a side note, when I had back surgery back in 2006, I came down with a severe infection of the spine called, "Osteomylitis."  I was put on an anti-biotic called, "Vancomyacin" for over 12 weeks which cleared up the infection in my spine, and if I had any type of bacteria in my body at all, the doctors said that that antibiotic is one of the strongest ones in use today and will kill any bacteria in my body.  So, I am puzzled.  Is there any way that it could be some kind of parasite?  Ive had fecal matter test done to look for parasites and those test came back negative, but ive also been told that those tests aren't really 100% reliable.  What I would really like is to find someone that could take some of my blood and look at it under a microscope and see if they could determine if there actually was some type of parasite or virus that they have not been able to pick up on.  However, the hospital I go to (Veterans Affairs, in Cincinnati, Ohio) doesn't do those kind of tests.
Thanks for you time and support.  Anything at all is a blessing.  Maybe together, we can finally find out what is actually going on.
Keep the faith, jason.  Ill be praying for you.
Take care,
your friend,
Terry

i believe that you need to find an infectious disease doctor.  Parasite's as far as i know may not circulate throughout you're body.  when they infect something they infect target tissues.  so when getting fecal tests or blood tests they might not show up.  thats why the tests arent a 100% accurate, plus a lot of tests have to be done for specific things, it's often simpler to see the effects they have on the tissues then the parasites themselves.  sometimes you have to get biopsies of specific tissues, in this case a sample of the vitreous humor of the eye might be the best way to go.  i have no doubt it's in more tissues but the eye is the only one i know for sure.

it's important to note that parasites are not the same as bacteria, they require "anti parasitic" medications,

on a side note the bacteria C. Dif is an excellent example of something that is stimulated when given antibiotics.  (i encourage you to do a lil research on that one)

when you find time i would really like you to create a full medical profile with all lab work, symptoms, everything.

Jason:  Ive been seen by infectious disease, but that was over 3 or 4 years ago.  They didn't find anything really.  But i don't know what they were looking for.  They ran a test for MONO, which came back as positive, but non-active, which means ive been exposed at some point to epstienbarr, but now recovered.  The doctors were pretty sure that maybe what i was suffering from was called, the cytomegalovirus, but tests came back neg. which sucked because symptoms pointed to it.  I just wonder what other tests could i get them to run?
Thanks bud,
Terry
p.s.  ill try to work up a profile for you asap.
