When all else fails, play dead!

What do you do to distract yourself from the pain and indignity of life? I have the 'pests' and right now, I'm listening/watching Red Dwarf, and I'm beading rats for the rat club to sell. The beads are size 8 and they make small and lightweight rats that are good for earrings. The brooch size ones are bigger, and I can do one initial on them and use up to 4 other colors. As soon as I can do photos, I'll show you.

If only ........... :'(

The only thing to distract my pain is when I finally get sleep, otherwise the pain is there and very hard not to forget no matter what methods I have used to distract my mind..

Hmm...Sleep's not much of a distraction. Your brain 'turns off' most external cues, meaning you don't feel lingering pain.

I mean, what do you do to keep your mind from focusing on your pain?

Thats a good question and one I really cannot answer
I haven't found anything ...............
Tried meditation, alternative therapies, deep breathing, nothing works for me, I haven't been able to gain control this way

What about you?
What methods help?

Ok...For me, phone calls to my mother, and maintaining this place distract me. My dog Mishka is a tripod and a therapy dog in training, so his training and the new puppy's training all distracts me and keeps me from focusing on me and my pain.

Made me think harder about this one.........
and your right, animals help greatly, if I'm having a moment my dogs (especially my cattle dog) senses and will do odd things to make me laugh and focus on her  :)

I'm listening/watching Red Dwarf...

Glad to hear it.... actually, Red Dwarf helps me get through things.   I need the sharpest sort of humor to help me jolt myself out of this empty fog.    What I do to distract and mentally survive is this, going onto message boards.   Unfortunately, everything available for me to do for distraction or semi-enjoyment makes the condition worse.

Jason-son,
A guy I know called Kiff (from a feral cats group I'm part of) won't tell you how, but he used to play with home made rockets that got about 1mile of flight and sent up clouds 'worthy of cape canavrel (did i spell it right?)'. He apparently launched them from boring old buckets with rocks in the bottom.

Training my dog, Kaos is keeping my mind off the insanity diagnosis. He's a big brown kelpie who was taught nothing before I got him. He knows sit, eye(which is what I say before I clean his eyes to get him to keep his head still), wait. We'll leave Mishka here tomorrow and go and practice at the station.

I have my kitties. They amaze me. Mayhem in particular seems to be very sensitive to when I am in pain. He will come lay across my lower belly right where it hurts, like my own furry heating pad. Mischief will lay as close as he can to me alll the time.

I play games on pogo.com (screen name is Rhia8813) to distract me.

I try to not take the Vicodin unless it is really bad. Somehow though, I don't think 4,000mg a day of Ibuprofen is much better.

I don't go out much anymore, but I do invite people over. I can lie on the couch and we can talk or watch a film.

Told You It Was Not All In My Head!

The pain is relatively new to me, so I do not know what to do. I have OD'd on both aspirin and advil, so I have to take the stupid vicodin and vicoprofen, which does so little to help, it's basically useless.

I feel useless. I am pretty much committed to getting an assistance dog now that it seems I am not going to be helped any time soon by these doctors. Otherwise, I just sit in my chair or lie in bed all day cause it all hurts so bad.

Keilia have you ever been tested for Fibromyalgia ?? Might be worth while looking into, some of your symptoms fits, the bone aches and muscle pain, just a brief thought, maybe mention seeing a specialist for this at your next Doctor visit ?
