Not sure where else to put this... Sammy, move it if you needs must.
<rant> All right, I have read through this article four times, and each time, it pisses me off even more. The only three words that come to mind immediately are What The FUCK?!?
As a person with some medical issues of her own, this really hits a nerve for me. But I think it ought to hit a nerve for all Americans. After all, every single one of us will be impacted if this horror manages to pass.
First, off, I am more than a little bit pissy about the idea of having my “medical treatments…tracked electronically by a federal system”. Exsqueeze me? Baking Powder?! What does the Federal government need to have access to my medical records for? I can see it if perhaps I was a member of the armed forces, but last I checked, I am simply a civilian, and the god damned government does NOT own me!
Also, this less than brilliant plan offers that it will “monitor treatments to make sure your doctor is doing what the federal government deems appropriate and cost effective.” I’m sorry, but should not the patient and their supervising physician be the ones determining what is best for that individual patient, and not some pompous, self-righteous, egotistical, paper pusher who has no idea about that individual patient? Apparently, “the goal is to reduce costs and “guide” your doctor’s decisions”. Fuck that! Fuck that and the blind horse it rode in on.
“According to Daschle, doctors have to give up autonomy and “learn to operate less like solo practitioners.”” Bullshit. Doctors are not machines to be controlled and puppeteered by some larger and so-called better force. Doctors are medical practitioners, and while it irks me that after 20 years of school, these clowns are still practicing medicine… The simple truth is that medical science is just that; a fucking science. We learn as we go! If we do not make mistakes, there can be no triumphs. And those mistakes often lead us to discover that although X treatment did nothing for X disease, it does something brilliant for M disease.
Oh, and apparently, if your doctor wants to be a renegade, he’ll be slapped in the face with some very thinly veiled threats of mysteriously "bad things", oh dear... “Hospitals and doctors that are not “meaningful users” of the new system will face penalties.Oh, and naturally, “Meaningful user” isn’t defined in the bill. That will be left to the HHS secretary, who will be empowered to impose “more stringent measures of meaningful use over time”” Great, and who decides all this? Oh yes, the government again! It sounds to me like if the docs and hospitals do not cooperate and play nicely with this hoopla, then they will be out of business. Brilliant, just fucking brilliant; turn the best and brightest medical minds away because they don’t fit into your special little mold. Did you fall down and smack your self-important little head on the pavement before you wrote and proposed this?!? Because only an incompetant git could have devised such drivel.
So, what, pray tell, is the fucking point of this debacle? Inquiring minds no longer want to know, they are demanding. According to this, “The goal, Daschle’s book explained, is to slow the development and use of new medications and technologies because they are driving up costs.” I see… so no longer shall we spend valuable time and apparently what is infinitely more horrifying, money, on finding out new things. Okay, now you’re really scaring me.
Also, “He praises Europeans for being more willing to accept “hopeless diagnoses” and “forgo experimental treatments,” and he chastises Americans for expecting too much from the health-care system.” Right, because expecting to be, I don’t know, fixed/cured/whatever you want to call it is asking for too much? Hello, jackass – did your mommy throw you down the stairs repeatedly when you were an infant? Last time I checked, neither I nor anyone else goes to the doctor’s office or the hospital “just because”. It’s not a fun outing for the whole family, nor is it an activity I would invite my best friends to do with me for entertainment on a Friday night. No; we go because we are sick or hurt and we need help from someone!
And of course, let’s not forget that it is of the utmost importance not to honour and cherish our elders, oh no… We must and should naturally exploit and fuck them over! Screw the old folks, the ones who raised and nurtured us and taught us right from wrong. Let them wither and die, they no longer serve a purpose… right? Fuck all, what is WRONG with you people?!? According to this, “Daschle says health-care reform “will not be pain free.” Seniors should be more accepting of the conditions that come with age instead of treating them.” Because you know, growing old sucks, and you should just accept it, or off yourself apparently.
And another thing, we often look to the U.K. for guidance, which irritates me just a wee bit anyway. Last time I checked, we, as in the collective U.S.A., wanted to separate from those folks, not join forces. Isn’t that what that whole Revolutionary War bit was about a couple hundred years ago? Hmmm... Perhaps I’ve missed the boat, but somehow I highly doubt it. So, now we want to emulate the people we so vehemently hated? Again I ask, What The Fuck?! “The Federal Council is modeled after a U.K. board discussed in Daschle’s book. This board approves or rejects treatments using a formula that divides the cost of the treatment by the number of years the patient is likely to benefit. Treatments for younger patients are more often approved than treatments for diseases that affect the elderly, such as osteoporosis.” And just to give you an idea of how deliberate and cruel this sort of thinking is, take a look at this – “In 2006, a U.K. health board decreed that elderly patients with macular degeneration had to wait until they went blind in one eye before they could get a costly new drug to save the other eye. It took almost three years of public protests before the board reversed its decision.” Wow… I mean, what else can a girl say?
And this is not just a few things that we are talking about here, “the stimulus bill will affect every part of health care, from medical and nursing education, to how patients are treated and how much hospitals get paid.” Furthermore, “the bill allocates more funding for this bureaucracy than for the Army, Navy, Marines, and Air Force combined.” Whoa, if I wasn’t frightened before, I am desperately in need of new skivvies for certain now. More than the entire armed forces combined? Something is desperately and absurdly wrong here.
And they are trying to slide it past the public, six kinds of slick and shady. They do not want the thinking people to catch wind of this because they know in the bottom of their cold and lifeless hearts, that those of us who they have not managed to fall prey to their mind manipulations and become sheep will have a mighty protestation to make regarding this. And, what’s worse, they are aware of this! Doing so deliberately!! “A year ago, Daschle wrote that the next president should act quickly before critics mount an opposition. “If that means attaching a health-care plan to the federal budget, so be it,” he said. “The issue is too important to be stalled by Senate protocol.”” I just… there almost aren’t even words.
To make things worse, our bright and shining new president is behind it. I can feel the blood in my veins turning to molten lead as we speak. I am so mad; I feel the need to spit bullets, possibly at our so called shining star. “On Friday, President Obama called it “inexcusable and irresponsible” for senators to delay passing the stimulus bill.”
I fully and wholeheartedly agree with the writer of the article – this issue indeed needs more scrutiny. Great loads of it. And what pisses me off? It is not likely to get it.
If anyone needs me, I’ll be at the pharmacy, stockpiling medications.
</end rant>
