Tired..

So, this is only my second semester as a premed student and one of the electives i decided to take was medical terminology. this is, BY FAR, the best class i will ever take.  let me be clear that the class itself is totally pointless.  i dont even go except for the tests.  but the book is absolutely phenomenal.  since we are all pretty much in the same boat, i think it would be an excellent idea if ALL OF YOU invested in getting, but more importantly, READING (and studying :) ) this book.

it teaches you how to dissect almost every medical term, figure out what they mean, and then how to build the words yourself.  there are countless pages of diseases and causes, treatments and tests for each one. how and why they effect you.  if you spend a lot of time researching your symptoms online, hoping you'll find an answer, i think you may be better off reading this book.

"The Language of Medicine, Eighth Edition" by Davi-Ellen Chabner
ISBN: 1-4160-3492-7
ISBN-13: 978-1-4160-3492-6

it is 22 chapters long, each chapter takes me approx 3 hours to read and learn the material.  1 day a week, or a little bit each night, i promise you it is the best thing you can do for yourself.

i hope all of you will consider it.

PS. DO NOT buy a used copy.. to learn this there are pages full of space for you to write in, and if someones used that space, you're going to have a much harder time learning it.

I Will Be Diagnosed !

Very interesting
Does the book have "Costochondritis" would love to hear the causes, treatments and tests please Jason-Son  :)

Im sure its a terrific book and I will look into it, the only problem when researching for yourself with these kind of books, as well as online is you end up having so many symptoms that you think "YES" I have this and I have that, oh and I have all those symptoms too.  ;D

I retained a few prefixes and suffixes from an audio book like that 15 or 20 years ago, not many, otomy vs. ostomy...

Come to think, I'm not sure on those meanings anymore.  It's been a surrealistically long time that I've been stuck in this neurological state, losing information out of my head.   No, I just borrowed the audio book from Recording for the Blind, and had to return it.

I thought that one was the sewing together of two ends of an intestine (ostomy), and the other was the cutting apart of a spot in the intestine.

Today I went to have my digestive tract thing seen to.   The doctor underplayed any sense of danger, but that can happen because my description was inadequate.

mm.. not quite :P stomy is a new opening, for example: tracheostomy- a new opening in the trachea.  and a tracheotomy is an incision in the trachea to create a tracheostomy!

suffix can be used in reference to any part of the body though!

jason, what exactly is going on with your digestion? i know you're having problems but i dont think i saw exactly whats happening?
